MVB SIGN 3RD RECRUIT FOR 2009
Colin Carson
For Immediate Release—February 5,2009

Kamloops, BC—There is quite a rivalry between Prince George and Kamloops when it comes to sports. Although when it comes to University Men’s volleyball,  quite a bond has developed between the two cities.   Prince George has proven to be a great resource for the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack.

P.G. has a solid high school and club program and again, it’s produced some high calibre talent for the WolfPack program.   Head Coach Pat Hennelly has announced the signing of 17 year old setter Colin Carson of Duchess Park Secondary.
“Colin Carson is one of the best setters in Western Canada, if not Canada for his age,” says Hennelly of the 6’3” Carson. “ We think that he’ll be a great addition to our team and to learn from Colin Jaggard, who is going into his fifth  and final year of elgiblility in 2009-10.”

Carson is the third member of the BC U-18 team to sign a commitment sheet with the WolfPack. He is following in the footsteps of Alex Davis (middle, White Rock, BC) and Matt Krueger (Left side/Libero, Abbotsford, BC).   “I had an excellent experience playing with Alex and Matt the last two years, “ says Carson.  “Anytime you get an opportunity to play with high quality players like those two it is another positive experience.”

“There are a lot of similarities between Colin Carson and Colin Jaggard,” Hennelly stated.  “ Both are about the same size. They are athletic and they are leaders.”

Carson led Dutchess Park to a fourth place finish at the Provincial “AAA” high school championships. “ He didn’t have a lot of the weapons the other teams had.  He did a lot with them.” Said Hennelly.  “When I saw him at the Provincials, he was running a pretty good offense with not all of the pieces in place. When he gets to the BC team level, he shines. When he gets to our level ,he will really shine when he has a number of options to work with rather than just one or two, which is often the case in club and high school volleyball.”

When he suits up with the ‘Pack in September, Colin Carson will become the fourth player from Prince George to play for TRU.  He follows in the footsteps of 2008 graduates Graham Allard and Tim Flannigan (who is now an assistant coach with the WolfPack) and red shirt libero Spencer Reed.

Hennelly believes that with the addition of Carson, he has secured the services of three of the top five high school prospects in BC.  “Carson is definitely the top setter in BC and Davis is the top middle for sure.”

Carson plans to play club volleyball this winter and spring with the PGYVC  Kodiacs.  When attending Thompson Rivers in the Fall, he plans to take general arts courses with an eye of getting into Physical Education in the future.   “ I was looking at a few other schools, ‘ he says  “But TRU had the most to offer and it’s a great opportunity to play high quality volleyball with an excellent program.”
