Langley, BC—“At least we left the gym knowing that we have a chance to win tomorrow and that’s always a good thing”. That’s how Thompson Rivers University WolfPack Men’s basketball coach Thom Gillespie summed up his teams performance after the Pack fell 86-62 to the hometown Trinity Western University Spartans.
“We couldn’t recover from their quick first half,” stated Gillespie. The WolfPack were down 24-12 at the quarter mark.
“I was pleased in a sense that we continued to battle hard,” said Gillespie, who’s team suffered their 10th straight league defeat. “ We had some lapses in play but there were some positives. We had some better shots tonite, we had improved ball movement and made a few stops.”
The Spartans were up 49-33 at half time.
Trinity was led by Louis Hurd (4th year, guard, Spokane, Wash) who had 25 points. Jason Keegstra (4 th year, forward, Vernon, BC) had 13 points. The Spartans played without their star, Jacob Doerksen (3rd year, forward, Abbotsford, BC) who didn’t dress.
TRU was led by Jeff Friesen (4 th year, forward, Duncan, BC) who had 18 points. Drew Bleth (4 th year, guard, Ridgefield, Wash) had 17 points.
The Spartans are now 11 and 5. TRU falls to 3 and 13. The same two teams play Saturday (Jan 17) in Langley.
