SPARTANS FORCE THIRD AND DECIDING MATCH IN CANADA WEST QUARTERFINAL

Langley, BC--The David E. Enarson Gym was certainly an unlucky place for the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack on Friday the 13 th. The host Trinity Western Spartans were out killed but came out strong and beat the WolfPack 3-1 to square their best of three Canada West Men's Volleyball Quarterfinal at a game a piece.
TRU outkilled Trinity 49-38 in the match. But the story was errors. The WolfPack committed 35 to the Spartans 13.
Trinity won the first match 25-14 before the WolfPack came back to take the second 25-22. The scores reversed in the third set before Trinity won the fourth 25-23.
Chaim Schalk (Red Deer, Alta) was the main threat again for Trinity. He had 11 kills with 4 errors in 30 attempts. Paul Lindemueller had seven kills in 20 chances. Ben Ball (Abbotsford, BC) had 31 assists while Andrew Hawkes had 12 digs.
For TRU, who out dug Trinity 53-47 and had more assists in the contests (45 to 36), they had 18 kills from Robin Schoebel (3rd year, outside hitter, Monaco). He had 10 errors in 46 attempts. Schoebel added nine digs. Gord Perrin (2nd year, outside hitter, Creston, BC) had 13 kills and nine errors in 38 attemps. Perrin and Kyle Donen (3rd year, libero, White Rock, BC) each led in the dig department with 10 a piece. Setter Colin Jaggard (Calgary, Alta) had 43 assists.
The Spartans out blocked the WolfPack in the contest: 13.5 to 4.
The third and deciding match of the series is set for Saturday (February 14) at 5:30 pm at Trinity Western. The winner not only takes the series but earns a berth in both the Canada West Final Four and the CIS Nationals which will both be held at the University of Alberta in Edmonton.
