Winnipeg—“It sounds like a cliché but we have to learn how to win.” That’s how a dejected Thompson Rivers University WolfPack men’s volleyball coach Pat Hennelly described his team’s five set loss to the hometown University of Winnipeg Wesmen in Canada West Volleyball action Friday (Nov 21).  “We  don’t have the flow that we did last year.  We have no emotional leader’.

The scores were 23-25,25-22.25-22.20-25.11-15  as the WolfPack fall to 3 and 4 on the season.  The Wesmen improved to 5 and 2.

“We had a good start,” said Hennelly “but let them back into the first set.  After taking the next two, things were looking up.”
The Wesmen forced a fifth set where Hennelly said his club didn’t execute and it cost them.
“Winnipeg is a type of team that no matter if they get down, they don’t falter and panic.” He stated.

Hennelly thought Rookie middle Conor Each (1st year, Aurora, Ontario)  played his best match as a WolfPack.  He sat out veterans Colin Jaggard (4 th year, Calgary, Alta) and Martin Korsbak (3rd year, Nyborg, Denmark) in the first set.
Andrew Town(4th year, outside, Winnipeg, Man) had 23 kills for the Wesmen.  Alan Ahow (4 th year, outside, Winnipeg, Man)  and Paul Kjos(5th year, opposite, Ottawa, Ont)  had 13 digs a piece.

For TRU: they were led by Gord Perrin (2nd year, outside hitter, Creston, BC).  He had 24 kills.  Jaggard had 24 assists.  Martin Stenderup (2nd year, setter, Ribe, Denmark) had 32 assists.   Robin Schoebell (3rd year, outside h itter, Monaco) returned to the WolfPack line up and had 18 kills and 14 digs.

“I thought Collin Gordon had a good match, “ recounted Hennelly. “replacing Behlul (Yavasgel, 3rd year, outside hitter, Aydin Turkey),  Collin did some good things passing.”
The same two teams go at it again Saturday (Nov 22) in Winnipeg.
