For Immediate release: November 22, 2008

Winnipeg—“We ‘re not where we should be and where people expected us to be.” That’s  how Thompson Rivers University WolfPack men’s volleyball coach Pat Hennelly describes his teams performance thus far in the 2008-09 Canada West Season.

Hennelly’s charges fell for the fifth time in a row (now 3 and 5) , being knocked off by the hometown University of Winnipeg Wesmen in four games Saturday night (Nov 22).  The scores were 23-25,25-20,25-16,31-29.
“We did a good job in the first set,” said Hennelly. “ But we had no life in the second and third sets. “

The WolfPack got another strong performance from 2nd year outside hitter Gord Perrin (Creston, BC). He had 15 kills.   Colin Jaggard (4 th year, setter, Calgary, Alta)  had 43 assists.  Collin Gordon (3rd year, Calgary, Alberta)  played a second straight night at left side and had 11 digs.

“I thought Josh Boruck (2nd year, outside hitter, Revelstoke, BC) provided some offensive spark when he got in there.” Said Hennelly.
The Wesmen (now 6-2) were led by Andrew Town(4th year, outside, Winnipeg, Man) with 20 kills.  Paul Kjos(5th year, opposite, Ottawa, Ont) contributed 15 while Alan Ahow  (4th year, outside, Winnipeg, Man) had 13 kills and 13 digs.  Daniel Lother (3rd year, setter, Winnipeg, Man) had 46 assists.

Hennelly says he and his entire team—coaching staff included—have a lot of soul searching to do.  “We have to go back to the drawing board and figure out where we are going wrong. I admit as a coach, some of my decisions haven’t been the greatest.  We have to find the right combination of guys to get a chemistry going.”

Hennelly admits that instead of vying for a home playoff date: his WolfPack, the CIS bronze medal winners in 2007-08 are now in a position of fighting for a playoff position.   The WolfPack close the pre-Christmas portion of their season off next week (Nov 28-29) at home to the University of Saskatchewan Huskies.

SIDEOUTS:Behluhl Yavasgel was sorely missed this weekend.  The 3rd year outside hitter (Aydin, Turkey) was back home recovering from a separated shoulder.
