WOLFPACK MVB TAKE HUSKIES AGAIN IN THREE STRAIGHT

For immediate release: November 29, 2008
Kamloops-The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack Men’s Volleyball team appears to have ‘righted its ship’ just in time for the second half of the Canada West season. The Wolfpack upped their record to 5 and 5 following a three game sweep of the University of Saskatchewan Huskies (now 0-10). The scores were 26-24,25-16,24-19.
When asked if they felt any pressure not to lose to the Huskies, WolfPack head coach Pat Hennelly said “We talked about this before the match. Potentially, this was a team which was at 0 and 10 and we didn’t want to give them their first win. That sends a statement across the league that the WolfPack’s not ready to play. I was happy the guys took care of business. It was nice to see Shoebell back on the floor (3rd year, outside hitter, Robin of Monaco). It makes for a way better break. We are still in a great spot for a playoff spot.”
Schoebel returned to his first home action with the WolfPack since the pre-season, notching 13 kills, having a service ace and three block assists.
The WolfPack were led by Gord Perrin. The 2nd year outside hitter from Creston BC was on fire with four service aces. “ We were confident.” said Perrin “ we went out there and swung. We went out for the shots….we weren’t afraid of being blocked the whole games. We got a lot of blocks and played disciplined.”
Perrin credits a ‘good feel on the court’ for his dominance serving. “I knew if I missed a serve. We’d be right back on the horse.” He added seven digs as did 3rd year libero, Kyle Donen (White Rock, BC)
4 th year setter Colin Jaggard (Calgary, Alta) had 31 assists.
For the Huskies, Jarret Christensen was the big killer for the second straight night. The third year left side from Bienfait, Sask had nine kills. Brian Yuzdepski (5 th year, setter/right side, Selkirk, Man) had three service aces and five digs. He led the team in that category along with Adam McTavish (2nd year, setter, Asquith, Sask). Cole Hintz (4th year, setter, Yorkton, Sask) had 15 assists.
The Huskies are off until January 2nd for Christmas. The WolfPack return January 2nd to host their second annual international tournament at the Tournament Capital Center in Kamloops. Teams involved include the NCAA Runners up from 2008, Pepperdine Wave and Budo University of Japan.
