For Immediate Release: November 22, 2008

Kamloops-“Our effort and energy wasn’t there after yesterdays tough defeat .” The words of Thompson Rivers University WolfPack Men’s basketball head coach Thom Gillespie after his team dropped an 88-79 decision to the Brandon University Bobcats. It dropped the WolfPack to 2 and 8 in the Canada West Pacific division.

“To their credit, they had a similar scenario in Fraser Valley, “ said Gillespie. “They outworked us at the start of the game and were able to hang on.”

The Bobcats, who lost 89-88 to UFV in extra time Friday (Nov 21) led 33-22 at the first quarter pole but were outscored by the WolfPack 18-13 in the second quarter and saw their lead shrink to six (46-40).

“I thought we played consistent for 40 minutes,” said Bobcat coach Keith Vassell. “We brought energy. We had been struggling in certain areas. We did a good job on the boards. Danny Charlery (4 th year, guard, Montreal, Que) stepped up and had a really good game. So too did Adam Philpott (3rd year, forward, Winnipeg, Man).” Charlery had 23 points to lead the Brandon scoring. Philpott chipped in with two.

TRU was led by Drew Bleth and Jeff Friesen. Bleth, the 4th year guard from Ridgefield Washington had 24 points and eight rebounds. Friesen, the fourth year forward (Duncan, BC) had 21 points and nine rebounds.

The WolfPack did cut the Bobcat lead in the second half, but couldn’t capitalize on their free throws.

The Bobcats improved to 3 and 5 on the year. They entertain Regina next weekend (Nov 28-29). TRU pays a visit to Simon Fraser.
