Edmonton, Alta--If a basketball game was only two quarters, then the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack Men's Baskteball team would have come away with a victory tonite (Fri Jan 30) at the Butterdome in Edmonton.
The 'Pack led 48-38 at the half but wound up falling to the host Alberta Golden Bears 91-81.
"The game was a lot closer than the score indicates," said WolfPack head coach Thom Gillespie." We wer eup by ten at the half and did a great job of scoring both inside and out. The second half started and we turned over the ball on our first three possessions. Alberta scored to knot things up."
The WolfPack battled back to within four points in the third quarter. But Greg Stewart (3rd year, forward, Kamloops, BC) got into foul trouble and was eventually disqualified from the rest of the contest. Gillespie said after that, the Bears took advantage.
"We had stretches where we played very well." he added.
TRU's two fourth year players: Jeff Friesen (forward, Duncan, BC) and Drew Bleth (guard, Ridgefield, Wash) each had 20 points. C.G. Morrison had 20 for the Bears.
The WolfPack fall to 2 and 18 while Alberta moves to 11 and 8. TRU travels to Saskatchewan to meet the Huskies Saturday. Alberta will host the University of the Fraser Valley.
