For immediate release: February 24, 2009

Kamloops, BC—Multi tasking is common place in the 21 st century.  But few are able to do it as well as Danielle Fauteux.

The 25 year old Kamloops native is taking Sciences at Thompson Rivers University.   She was a member of the Canadian College Athletic Association Silver medal winning WolfPack women’s soccer team.  And she is also a small business owner.

Fauteux has operated “Interior Designs by Danielle’ full time as of 2008.  “ It’s something I’ve done on the side as a hobby for years. “ she explains.  “As a child, I was always rearranging my room and painting different colors for fun.  I started as a painter in my early teenage years and slowly began helping people pick colors and concepts for their homes. From there, word of mouth gave me opportunities that allowed me to be creative and see how fun design can be. Every job is different and exciting and that’s why I love about what I do.”

She admits that starting her small business was quite a process. It included a lot of research on owning a business and making sure there was a niche in the market place for her.  Fauteux says one of the key’s to getting a lot of work has been networking where she got to know a number of retailers and contractors in Kamloops.

Are potential clients scared off because of her youth? “ I think most of my clients are delighted to have someone young and innovative helping them realize their vision,” she says  “ Design is like fashion for your home so a young and fresh opinion can be a great advantage.”

Fauteux currently has a big job on the go.  She is up dating the look of the show room at Sam’s Custom Cabinets and Vanities in the Mount Paul Industrial Park.  “ They currently have five kitchens and four bathrooms on display,” Danielle explains . “ For this project, I’m picking new sinks, faucets and accessorizing with decorative kitchenware to increase the appeal of the displays.”

So, what is the latest trend in Design?  “ I am promoting alternative kinds of flooring like bamboo and cork. Bamboo is a great product because it is a renewable resource and it very affordable.”  She adds. “Bamboo is used for a great many things including flooring in Asian countries because of its beauty and durability and bringing the trend to Kamloops is a great idea.”

“I’m not sure everyone understands what a designer actually does.” She states. “A designer is a great person to have on our side when you are doing any kind of renovation or altering the look of your home or business. I help my clients plan their project carefully so it’s completed on time and within budget. I work closely with contractors and oversee everything to make sure my clients are getting exactly what they want.”  She adds that designers get discounts on many kinds of materials and home accessories that she extends to her clients.

Fauteux is planning to graduate this April with her Science Degree.  She hopes having it will help her later in life.  But in the immediate future, her focus will totally be on “Interior Designs by Danielle”.
