Oliver BC--It was 'all systems go' for the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack Baseball team in the South Okanagan on Saturday (Mar 21). With poor field conditions forcing them to play a weekend series in Oliver, the WolfPack took both ends of a doubleheader with the Okanagan College Cubs of Kelowna, BC. The scores of the exhibition tilts were 6-3 in the first game and 7-4 in the night cap.

The first game saw winning pitcher Jordan Broatch (RHP, White Rock, BC) go six innings. He surrendred six hits, three runs (two of them earned), walking two and striking out three. TRU got the save from Matt Walker (Infielder/Pitcher Bowen Island, BC). He pitched the final inning giving up a strikeout.

Infielder/Pitcher Greg Cros (Montpellier, France) was 3 for 4 at the dish with a double and three runs scored. Mike Tomlinson (pitcher/outfielder, Campbell River, BC) had a homer as he went 2 for 4 with three RBI. Ben Bradford (catcher/outfielder, Kamloops, BC) was also 2 fof 4 with an RBI.

In the night cap (the 7-4 WolfPack victory), Danny Moore (RHP, Victoria, BC) tossed five innings of five hit ball. He gave up three runs (two of them of the earned variety). He also struck out six and walked one. Mike Jaurez (rhp, Calgary, Alta) notched the save. Jaurez pitched two innings, striking out one, giving up two walks, a run and two hits.

Kyle Dhanani (shortstop, Blaine, Wash) was 2 for 3 at the plate with a triple and two stolen bases. Yoshi Yakamura (catcher/outfielder Yokohama, Japan) was 1 for 1 with a homer,a walk and 3 RBI. Matt Walker (Bowen Island, BC) was 1 for 3 with a home run.

The two teams will play again Sunday in Oliver (Mar 22). The WolfPack will send ace Bryan Mahon (Fruitvale, BC) to the hill in the first game with Mike Tomlinson (Campbell River, BC) going in the night cap.

TRU will open its Canadian College Baseball Conference regular season next weekend (March 28-29) when the defending league champion Prairie Baseball Academy Dawgs of Lethbridge, Alberta come to play in Kamloops. Those games will go at the Canada Games Field at McCarthur Island.
