WOLFPACK OPEN WEEKEND SERIES WITH SPLIT IN LETHBRIDGE

For Immediate Release: April 18, 2009
Lethbridge, Alberta--The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack knew that going into their Canadian College Baseball Conference games in Lethbridge on Saturday, their pitching staff would be a bit thin. Four members of their team, including pitchers Mike Tomlinson and Jordan Lane were en route to Southern Alberta after having to write finals on Friday (April 17).
The WolfPack were needing some strong pitching performances from those who did make the trip. They got complete games from both of their starters. Unfortunately on the scoreboard, the WolfPack emerged victorious only once.
TRU kicked off a four game series with the Prairie Baseball Academy Dawgs winning 4-0 behind the shutout complete game exploits of Jordan Broatch (RHP, White Rock, BC). He is now 5 and 3 in league play. However, in the nightcap, TRU's four game winning streak came to a close as they fell 5-4 to the Dawgs, who now lead the CCBC Chris Reitsma Division with a record of 11 and 3. TRU falls to 6-2 in league play. .
In the first game. Broatch gave up three hits, had three strikeouts and one walk as he raised his record.
TRU scored twice in the fourth and sixth innings for the victory. Yoshi Nakamura continued his hot hitting. The catcher/outfielder from Yokohama, Japan was 1 for 3 with a homer run, a run scored and 2 RBI. Nakamura now has three homers on the season, tied for the team lead with Matt Walker (outfielder/pitcher Bowen Island, BC) and Kyle Dhanani (shortstop, Blaine, Wash). Ben Bradford (catcher/Outfielder, Kamloops, BC) was 1 for 2 with 2 runs scored and a stolen base.
In the second game, Bryan Mahon (RHP, Fruitvale, BC) went eight innings for the complete game. he gave up five runs (3 earned), surrendered five hits with three strikeouts. He is now 2 and 4 on the season. Bryan Burston (catcher, Kelowna, BC) was 2-3 with a run scored, a double, a stolen base and an RBI. Scott Nevison (infielder/outfielder North Vancouver, BC) was 1-2 with two runs scored and a stolen base.
The two teams wind up their series Sunday with another doubleheader. Its likely that the WolfPack will go with Tomlinson (RHP, Campbell River, BC) and Danny Moore (RHP, Victoria, BC) as their pitchers.
TRU will meet the Okanagan College Cubs Wednesday night in Kelowna before facing the same Cub team in a pair of doubleheaders next weekend at Norbrock Stadium (April 25-26)
