For immediate Release: April 19, 2009

Lethbridge, Alta--It was a series that Ray Chadwick said would determine first place in the Canadian College Baseball Conference Chris Reitsma division. Unfortunately for Chadwick's Thompson Rivers University WolfPack, the result has left them looking at finishing no better than second.

The WolfPack lost three of four games to the defending CCBC champion Prairie Baseball Academy Dawgs. After splitting on Saturday (Apr 18), the WolfPack fell twice on Sunday to the Dawgs.

PBA won the first game 4-2 before taking the night cap 7-2.

In the first game, the Dawgs scored three in the bottom half of the first inning to take the lead. TRU cut the deficit to 3-2 with single runs in the second and third innings. But PBA salted things away with a single run in the bottom of the fifth.

The Dawgs had six hits and one error in the ball game compared to TRU's four hits and one error. Rookie hurler Danny Moore (RHP, Victoria, Bc) saw his record fall to 4-2 in the spring. He gave up six hits, surrendered all four runs (two of them earned), while striking out three and walking two.

Infielder/outfielder Greg Cros (Montpellier, France) was 1-4 at the dish with a double and a run scored. Yoshi Nakamura (catcher/outfielder, Yokohama, Japan) was 1 for 2 with a walk. Bryan Burston (catcher, Kelowna, BC) was 1-2 with a walk and a stolen base.

In the second game, TRU jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second. The lead was short lived as the Dawgs tied things up in their half of that inning. TRU went up 2-1 with a single run in the bottom of the sixth. but in the bottom half of that inning, the wheels fell off for the WolfPack. PBA scored six runs to take a 7-2 lead that they never relinquished.

Mike Tomlinson (RHP, Campbell River, BC) saw his record even out at 3 and 3. He went six innings surrendering eight hits on seven runs (6 earned). He had 5 strikeouts.

The wins give PBA a record of 13-3 in league play.

TRU has an exhibition tilt Wednesday (Apr 22) in Kelowna against Okanagan College. The Cubs then come back to Kamloops for a pair of league doubleheaders (Apr 25-26). These are the final four home league games of the spring season. game times both days are 1 pm and 3 pm at Norbrock Stadium.
