Kamloops, BC---One way to impress prospective players is to win handily. That is what the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack baseball team did in the opener of a weekend Canadian College Baseball Conference series at Norbrock Stadium.
Playing in the midst of the "Best of the West" Midget tournament, the WolfPack rolled to an 11-3 win over the University of Calgary Dinos. That ups the WolfPack regular season record to 2 and 3. Calgary falls to 2-3.
TRU scored four times in the first inning and rolled from there. THey also added a single run in the fourth, two more in the fifith, a single in the sixth and two more in the seventh inning. THey had 11 runs on 11 hits with one error.
Calgary scored their runs in the fourth, seventh and ninth innings.
Jordan Broatch (RHP, White Rock, BC) is becoming the early 'ace' of the TRU staff. He started the game and got the victory. Broatch went seven innings surrendering five hits, two runs (one earned), walking three and striking out three. He was replaced by Morgan Zahara. The first year player from Rycroft, Alberta went two innings. He gave up two hits, an earned run, walked three and struck out one.
The main men at the plate for TRU were Utilityman Scot Nevison (North Vancouver, BC) and Greg Cros (infielder/RHP, Montpellier, France). Nevison was 2 for 4 with a walk, two runs scored and a stolen base. Cros was 2 for 3 with three runs scored, a stolen base and an RBI.
The two teams will play a doubleheader Saturday (Apr 4) at Norbrock Stadium. The opening game is at 1130 am. The clubs close out their series with a Sunday morning tilt.
