WOLFPACK BADMINTON HAS STRONG WEEKEND IN FINAL LEAGUE TOURNEY

New Westminster BC--The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack Badminton team finished a respectable third in the final BC College Athletic Association tournament of the season.
The WolfPack easily defeated Capilano 5-0, Langara 4-1 and Vancouver Island University 3-2 in the team competition this weekend at Douglas College in New Westminster. TRU lost to Kwantlen 3-2 and then to eventual champion Douglas.
In the individual competition: The WolfPack men's doubles team of Andy Chu (5 th year, Tiawan) and Garrett Babichuk (2nd year, Kelowna, BC) upset the top ranked duo from Douglas to finish second in the "A" qualifying. This puts them in a good position heading into the Provincials to be held in a couple of weeks at TRU. Babichuk and Chu captured medals in the men's doubles last year at the Canadian College Finals in New Brunswick.
Marlee Mertens (2nd year, Salmon Arm, BC) and Kia Lidster (1st year, Kamloops, BC) finished first and second in the Women's "B" division singles. Noah Woods (2nd year, Kamloops, BC) was first in the men's "C"
singles. Babichuk wound up fourth in the men's "A" singles.
Among the other results: Woods and Alex Perkin (2nd year, Kamloops, BC) were second in men's "B" doubles. Mertens and Rebecca Fuzzon (3rd year, Crawford Bay, BC) finished second in the women's "B" doubles. Lidster and Whitney Mckenny (3rd year, Port Alberni, BC) wound up second in the women's "C" doubles.
In mixed doubles: Chu and Venita Colton (2nd year, Kamloops, BC)wound up first in the "C" doubles event.
The Provincials are set for Feburary 14-15 at the TRU Gym.
