For Immediate Release: January 23, 2009

Kamloops—Home was no more friendly than the road for the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack Women’s Basketball team. Playing their first game at the Tournament Capital Center since November 22, the WolfPack wound up with the same result-a loss. TRU fell 71-57 to the visiting University of Victoria Vikes. TRU falls to 3 and 15. U Vic is now 12 and 6.

“We didn’t compete,” lamented TRU Head Coach Scott Reeves afterwards. “ We had no energy or enthusiasm. When you are playing a top ten team you have to be consistant and we weren’t.”

The WolfPack shot only 36 per cent from the field in the contest. The Vikes shot 47.3 per cent.

“I thought it was a choppy game,” said Vikes Head Man Brian Cheng. “Going into the playoffs we have to play better. I thought our experience was the difference. Scott (Reeves) is doing a good job with a young crew and we got the better of them.”

“Something we talked about in the dressing room,’ Cheng continued “ Is that we have to get back to who we are. Its within us how good we can play. Everybody on this team has an opportunity to contribute and its something they need to do in order for us to be successful.”

The Vikes had three players in double digits led by 3rd year forward Vanessa Forstbauer (Chilliwack, BC). She had 17 points and seven rebounds (including four on offense). Kayla Dykstra (3rd year, forward, Calgary, Alta) had 13 points and five rebounds. Ashley Yee (4 th year, guard, Victoria, BC) had 12 points.

The top gunner for TRU was Kaitlyn Widsten (2nd year, guard, Tswwassen, BC). She had 11 points. Diane Schuetze (1st year, post, Vernon, BC) had nine points . Michelle Dimond (2nd year, forward, Port Moody, BC) had 10 boards.

The two teams go at it again Saturday (Jan 24 th) at the Tournament Capital Center. Tip off time is 5 pm.

FOUL SHOTS: The Aberdeen Elementary Band performed the national anthlem and at the time outs during the contest. Gord Stewart of the Big Little Science Center put on a show at the half. Both were well received. On Saturday, The WolfPack will pay tribute to their lone fifth year player, guard Sarah Cameron of Langley, BC.
