PERRIN FINALIST FOR SPORT BC ATHLETE OF THE YEAR AWARD.

Kamloops, BC—Thompson Rivers University WolfPack Men’s Volleyball Player Gord Perrin has been named a finalist for the Sport BC University Athlete of the Year. The 2nd year outside hitter from Creston,BC is one of five people nominated for Sport BC Major Awards with ties to Kamloops.
Perrin had an outstanding 2008: he was named the Canada West Rookie of the Year, selected to the CIS all Rookie Team, was named top hitter at an NORCECA International Volleyball Tournament where he led Canada to a berth in this years World Junior Championship. Perrin was also the winner of the Ray Lepp Scholarship through Volleyball BC.
Says Perrin: "I am honored to receive this nomination, I would like to thank my coach from Creston, Mike Nelson for getting me involved in Volleyball, my team mates at TRU and the guys I played with this summer on the junior national team".
TRU WolfPack head coach Pat Hennelly had this reaction: “I think it is great that Gord is receiving this recognition, he is not only one of the best CIS players, but proved this past summer he is one of the best players for his age in the NORCECA zone. It has been an honor that Gord chose TRU for his CIS experience and hopefully Gord can lead Team Canada to a medal this summer at the world championships" .
One of Perrin’s competitors for the University Athlete of the year is Kamloops native Miranda Dick, who wrestles at SFU.
Other Sport BC award nominees with ties to Kamloops are: Soccer official Michelle Pye for Official of the Year, Mountain Biker Catharine Pendrel for Senior Female Athlete of the Year and Shot putter Dylan Armstrong for Senior Male Athlete of the Year.
The 43rd annual Sport BC Awards will be dished out Tuesday March 24 th at the River Rock Theatrel in Richmond.
Sport BC's Athlete of the Year Awards is the longest standing sports recognition event in Canada. Over 600 people representing sport, media and corporate sponsors will attend the ceremony.
