WOLFPACK BENEFIT SOCCER CLINIC A BIG HIT!

For Immediate Release-April 5, 2009
Kamloops, BC---It was hard to tell who were the happiest people at Hillside Stadium on Sunday (April 5). It could have been the nearly 100 young soccer players, or maybe members of the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack Women's and Men's soccer teams. Or, it could have been officials with the Kamloops Y Women's Emergency Shelter.
The Shelter were charity of choice for the WolfPack soccer programs as they staged a benefit soccer clinic on a beautiful morning and afternoon. 94 children got to kick the ball around, receive instruction and help the cause raising $ 890.00 with one donation to come.
"What a wonderful day," exclaimed WolfPack soccer players Shantelle Cooper and Cassie Drummond afterwards. "It was great working with the kids..they were so great."
"It was a great success," stated WolfPack head coach Tom McManus, who--along with assistant Glen Archer and retiring head coach Eric Schweizer took a supervisory role at the clinic. Players from U-5 to U-16 spent two hours learning skills and then playing a game. "I thank the girls and boys from the WolfPack who donated their time, as they concentrate on preparing for their finals. " said McManus. "This is something we will definitely want to do again."
The popularity of the clinic was evident as organizers had to turn 60 children away due to numbers. The event could prove to be a legacy for Cooper, who graduates this season after five years with the TRU program.
'We will probably go to three sessions next year," stated Sports Information Officer Larry Read. "We want to thank the City of Kamloops for waiving the user fee in order for us to help the Women's Shelter. Kudos to the media of Kamloops, who went out of their way to help us promote it and Kamloops Youth Soccer."
WolfPack current and former players helping out at the clinic as well were; Shannon Kelly, Kelsey Callander, Kelsi Butner, Blair MacKay, Shannon Meyer of the Women's program along withTravis Duncan, James Byra and Hee Young Chung of the Men's team.
