When Cari Sutcliffe looks back at her first year of University, she’ll probably have a lot of highlights.  The least of which will be two honors tied to her excellence in the classroom and on the soccer field.   The Rookie Sweeper from Kamloops (Brocklhurst Sec), has qualified as a Canadian College Athletic Association Academic All Canadian.
Sutcliffe is in the second year of a three year diploma program in Engineering Design and Drafting Technology at Thompson Rivers University.   In her first year, She not only was a BC College Athletic Association First Team All-star, but she was also named  a BCCAA Scholar for maintaining nearly a 4.0 average.
“I was surprised I won this award,” says Sutcliffe, who chose the field after taking four years of drafting in high school.  “I found  that I really enjoyed designing houses and this program offered me the choice for a career in the design field.”
“Im thrilled to win this” she adds. “I’d like to thank my coach Eric Schweizer.  I really appreciate it. I don’t think I could have asked for much more out of a soccer season (except to have made it to Nationals), so winning this award is like icing on the cake.”
Byra is into his 2nd year of Psychology.  He was a first team BC College Athletic Association Allstar and Captain of the Mens Soccer team.  "Being on a team and having th show a great deal of committment to that team has helped me to become committed to my education as well," says Byra "Having a coach and athletic staff that puts school beore soccer has also been very helpful because it is not a problem to miss practices for school."
Sutcliffe and Byra will be recognized at the WolfPacks Athletic Awards Banquet on April 9 th.
