The return of the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack Golf Team has taken another step forward.

Head Coach Bill Bilton Junior has chosen five golfers following four days of playdowns at the Dunes in Kamloops.

Adam Gruber of Kamloops finished at 15 under par for the 72 hole event. Gruber, who led wire to wire, shot a two under par in the final day. “I am very impressed with his play,” says Bilton . “ The team wishes him well as he heads to the Canadian Amateur next week”.

Tanner Wilson, Riley Balson, Tim O’Donovan and Kevin Ricalton (all of Kamloops) were the other golfers named to the WolfPack team. Wilson fired a 71 in the final round to take the second berth. Balson, who was a part of the South Kam team which won the BC “AAA” High School title was the third golfer selected. Balson actually played Rivershore for his final three rounds. He was participating in their amateur event and had a three round total of 224 to go with the 74 he shot Friday at the Dunes.

Says Bilton: “A 5th position was awarded to Kevin Ricalton of Kamloops. Kevin certainly has the ability to have a spot on the team. He made a few mistakes this week and I don't believe his scores reflect his potential. Overall, I am very pleased with the first qualifying event and optimistic about our first year as the WolfPack Golf Team.

“ The WolfPack, who return to BC College Athletics Association Golf circles for the first time since the late 1990’s this fall, will add at least another two players to their roster. Bilton plans to have a three day qualifying set September 4-6 th at the Dunes in Kamloops. Interested golfers (who need to be TRU Students and Academically Eligible) can call the Dunes at 250-579-3300 or email Coach Bilton at williambilton@comcast.net . to sign up.
