Their training camp may be five months away, but odds are that the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack Womens Basketball workouts will be competitive. The 'Pack have signed yet another top BC High School player. Head coach Scott Reeves is pleased to announce the addition of 17 year old forward Lindsay Dekoff (pronounced Deck-off) of Chilliwack.
“Lindsay is going to be a great addition to what we are building here at TRU,” says Reeves. Dekoff was a key member of the Chilliwack Storm. She played three years for the Storm and was a key ingredient to their appearance in the Provincial “AAA” Championships this year. She was second in blocks at the tournament averaging 2.2 per game as the Storm finished fourth.
“I took a lot of time making my decision. Once I did, it felt really good and I’m really excited to play,” adds Dekoff who spurned offers from Trinity Western, UCFV, Kwanten College to sign with the ‘Pack. She was invited to the ‘Packs Spring ID camp where she shone.
“I think I did pretty good. I didn’t really know what to expect because I’ve never gone to an ID Camp before. I felt confident,” Dekoff adds.
The 6-0 forward comes into TRU with some impressive credentials. She has played competitive field hockey for the six years.
“Lindsay has become a fixture in the cultural landscape of Chilliwack Girls’ Basketball,” says Storm coach Joe Ogmundson. “She contributed to summer camps, coached teams in spring league, played on our club teams. She’s devoted, loyal, friendly and an excellent role model for younger kids in our program. “
“I’m an aggressive player, who is very competitive and I love to pop the 6-8 foot shot,” says Dekoff, who will take general courses with an eye to entering the TRU Nursing program in 2009.
“Lindsay can guard all five spots on the defensive side of the ball, shes a terrific rebounder,” assesses Ogmundson “She can run the floor in a CIS way, is physical, quick to react and is very fit. She’s not afraid of work and responds to the challenge.”
“Lindsay is a very strong academic which fits into our team philosophy of the complete student athlete,” states Reeves. “I’m very excited to have her commit to TRU.”
This signing sounds like a good one for all concerned. Says her high school coach: “She will do a lot to make TRU an even better place.”
While Dekoff herself can’t wait to be a part of what is sure to be a turnaround season for the WolfPack, who’ve signed a number of top BC High school players including Jess Franz of BC “AAA” Champion Elgin Park and Tracy Kos of Port Moody: “Watch out TRU!’ she says “Because here comes Lindsay!”
