Larry Read is recognized for The Faces of MS, a broadcast story about the Faces of MS Public Education Project, an exhibit about Kamloops, B.C. residents affected by multiple sclerosis. The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada’s John Alexander Media Awards recognize excellence in print and broadcast journalism. The awards were established to honour the late John Alexander’s contribution to increasing public awareness of MS in Canada. The goal of the awards is to encourage excellence in writing and broadcasting about multiple sclerosis.
“We are pleased to honour the latest winners of the John Alexander Media Awards,” says Yves Savoie, president of the MS Society of Canada. “Their outstanding work demonstrates how everyone can be involved in ending MS – from researchers to your next door neighbour.”
“Larry’s extensive coverage of the exhibit brought the Faces of MS to life for the people of Kamloops,” states Marcia Wilson, Executive Director of the Kamloops & Area Chapter.
Larry Read, who is the honorary chair of the Kamloops Rona MS Bike Tour, marked the occasion by donating the $500 award back to the MS Society in support of the bike. “Every year I volunteer and participate in the Rona MS Bike Tour. I know what a difference every dollar makes, and I challenge others to match this pledge” says Read. The Rona MS Bike Tour takes place Sunday September 7. Cyclists can enjoy a fully supported ride of 12, 28, 40 or 57 km from Riverside Park to Jameson Creek Ranch.
