The calendar reads that start of the 2008 BC College Athletic Association Soccer season is still some five months away. But for Sean Wallace and his Thompson Rivers University WolfPack  Coaching staff, it begins on Saturday (April 12).
Some 40 or so recruits from throughout BC are expected to be at Hillside Stadium for the four hour session. “ This weekend is important for us to get a list of potential recruits,” says Wallace.  “ We need to see themin person so we know they are their serious in their intentions of coming to TRU in the fall. Its also a chance to see the new recruits in a high intensity environment with past and current players.” Wallace is looking forward to seeing whether or not they have the potential to move to College ball.
“You never really know who is coming back until you see everyone at the first camp in August” states WolfPack manager Errol Wild. ‘This weekend will give us a chance to see where we need to do more recruiting.”.  The ‘Pack will have a number of local players out for evaluations this weekend.  Another face will be Alex Aguiluz of Port Moody.  He has the distinction of being the first 2008-09 recruit  to commit  to the WolfPack program.
“We could be looking to fill 6 to 8 spots.” Wallace explains pointing to the uncertainty surrounding a number of veterans coming bck to the fold.
This is a big year for the Mens Soccer Program at TRU.  Wallace’s side won the BC title in 2007 so defending it is a big priority. So too is a strong showing at the Nationals, which will be held at Hillside Stadium in November.  “Nationals hasn’t attracted as many recruits as I would have thought it would, but we are only in April.”
The morning training session on Saturday (10am-Noon) will focus on the skill level of the athletes. Wallace plans an intra-squad match for the afternoon (2-4 pm).  The top prospects will be invited to the teams main camp which will be held in August.
