The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack Mens Volleyball team will be well represented when Canada hits the floor at the 18 th Maccabiah Games next July (2009). 3rd year libero Kyle Donen and 2nd year outside hitter Josh Boruck were two of 5 players chosen after a one day tryout in Toronto, Ontario on Fathers Day.
“Great for Josh and Kyle”, says WolfPack head coach Pat Hennelly. “And its great for our program. To represent your country and religion at a major games like the Maccabi is a once in a life time opportunity.”
Donen’s selection means that the Summer of 2009 will be a busy one for the 5-10 Business student from White Rock BC. He will most likely also play for BC at the Canada Summer Games.
The Canadian Team, which finished 7 th at the last Maccabiah Games in 2005, is being coached by Brenda Willis. She is the head coach of Queens University. “I am very confident that the Canadian Men’s Open Volleyball Team will be extremely solid and I look forward to helping guiding the process, moving forward” she adds.
Boruck and Donen were given automatic berths on the club, along with three others. Some 13 players will be flown back to Toronto to vye for seven additional spots on the team at a later date.
Donen’s father, Shane is the head coach of the Canadian Maccabi Womens Volleyball Team.
The Volleyball portion of the 2009 Maccabiah Games is set for July 14-17 th in Tel Aviv, Isreal.
