For the second year in a row, a member of the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack mens volleyball team has won a prestigious scholarship from Volleyball BC.

2nd year Outside Hitter Gord Perrin (Creston BC) is the 2008 recipient of the Ray Lepp Scholarship. “The scholarship is named in honor of Ray Lepp, who coached, officiated and was an instrumental part of the early years of Volleyball in BC” says  WolfPack Head Coach Pat Hennelly.

The scholarship ($2500.00) goes to a BC born volleyball player who is touted to excel for Canada internationally.   A male and female volleyball player are honoured every year.

“I’ve coached a number of former winners of this award when I was with UBC”, says Hennelly “To have Gord among them is a big honor.  With the year that he had in 2007-08,  he certainly deserves to be there.”

Perrin, who recently was named to Canada’s Junior National team, was the Canada West Rookie of the year in 2008 and named to the CIS All Rookie Team.   “This is something I never thought of winning,” stated Perrin “Im honoured to be in the company of past winners.”

One of those past winners is his current teammate, libero Kyle Donen (3rd year, White Rock BC).  Donen was the BC “AAA” Allstar before committing to Thompson Rivers two years ago.

“One of the cornerstones of my philosophy is to try and get the top BC born and bred players to come to the WolfPack,” says Hennelly “ With Kyle, and now Gord winning this scholarship, I hope its just the start for athletes who’ve committed to TRU receiving it.”

Perrin will be given the honor officially tonite at a Volleyball BC function in Vancouver. Unfortunately, due to his training commitments with the Junior National Team in Winnipeg, Manitoba  Perrin won’t be able to attend.
