Skiing
TRU is but 45 minutes away from one of BC's great ski facilities: Sun Peaks. Sun Peaks offers 121 runs, 1500 skiable hectares and 881 metres of vertical.
TRU's Chancellor, Nancy Green-Raine, is the Director of Skiing at Sun Peaks Resort. Nancy was recently named to the Canada Senate was was recognized in 1999 as Canada's female athelete of the century and with an honourary Doctorate of Laws from the University College of the Cariboo (now TRU).
Mountain Biking
Kamloops is a great place for mountain biking. Local enthusiasts and the city have recently completed phase one of the Kamloops Bike Ranch, a mountain bike facility located just east of the downtown. The Bike Ranch is a 26 hectare collection of gullied silt bluffs, sage brush, and open grasslands. It offers an elevation drop of 132 m alongs its 1.1 km length. According to the city's web site, the "A-line style downhill trail" features a "multitude of tables and 'berms' rated for the expert rider; a jump park for expert and intermediate riders; and a BMX track to Canadian Cycling Association standards."
