The Wonder a Semi-Finalist
George Johnson's new screenplay, adapted from an Edwardian novel that he teaches, was a semi-finalist in a major American screenplay competition. The play is about a child genius who devours all the knowledge of humankind before rejecting it, with disastrous consequences. To find out more about the competition, see:

Nick Beauchesne and Luke Kernan win Bombardiers
Two EML students won the prestigious--and generous--national Bombardier scholarship, and they are both off to pursue further graduate work. SSHRC describes "the Joseph-Armand Bombardier CGS Master's Scholarships" as a "funding opportunity ... to develop research skills and assist in the training of highly qualified personnel by supporting students in the social sciences and humanities who demonstrate a high standard of achievement in undergraduate and early graduate studies". Congratulations to them both.

TRU English Club formed in 2011
After a decade long hiatus and newly named, the English Club was founded by Chelsea Tuyttens, Danna Pierlot and Brittany Nelson, with a lot of help from faculty Karen Hoffmann and Elizabeth Riemer. The students are all nearing the end of their programs now, but they hope to create a strong foundation for the English club to flourish after they graduate. They hosted a successful social this year, and because the club is in its infancy, they are going to be concentrating on getting the word out to younger students and would love to hear their ideas about fun future events. Chelsea spoke with high school teachers to arrange English Club volunteers to speak to interested high school students not just about the Club, but university life and all the options that are available to them in the Arts programs. The founders of the club are encouraging everyone to check out the Facebook page and ask questions and share their thoughts about the direction the club will take in the upcoming years.
