What is it?
The REBEL WRITING CAMP is an opportunity for young teens to explore different writing and writing-performance styles. The camp runs for 5 days and 4 nights in July.
When and Where is it?
The REBEL WRITING CAMP runs July 12 through the 16 on the Kamloops campus of Thompson Rivers University.
Who is Eligible?
Students between the ages of 12 and 16.
What Workshops are we Hosting?
Each day will focus on a different a different
writing medium and style. The five media we will feature are:
- Poetry Slams
- Song Writing
- Graffiti Art
- Story Telling
- New Media
Who are the Workshop Leaders?
Each workshop will be lead by a writer / artist who is well recognized in their field. You can check out their profiles

What about Accommodation and Food?
The sponsors of the Writing Camp will cover the accommodation and food costs for all students other than the registration/commitment fee. Students will stay in shared suites in the new TRU Residence and Conference Centre. All students will have their own bedroom. Meals will be provided at the residence and other locations on campus.
What about Travel costs?
Students must make their own travel arrangements to and from Thompson Rivers University campus in Kamloops.
How much does Registration Cost?
There is a $75
registration/commitment fee. If you require financial assistance please

How do I apply and when is the deadline?
To apply, you need to send us three things before
June 1, 2010:
- Application form (please note that consent from a parent or guardian is required)
- Cheque for $75 to cover the registration / commitment fee. The cheque should be made out to Thompson Rivers University. The cheque will be returned if your application is not successful.
- One page explanation of why you would like to attend the Rebel Writing Camp
- One sample of your writing or art. Acceptable submissions would include:
- a story or essay (up to 500 words)
- poetry or song lyrics
- photographs of an artistic work with a short explanation attached
- a short video (up to 3 minutes) showing a performance (e.g. singing, poetry slamming, story telling) or video art
- a web site you have created
Please Note: send only ONE sample of your work. Do NOT send a story, and photographs, and videos. One is sufficient.

How many students will attend the camp and who decides?
A committee will select up to 32 students to attend the camp. We will notify successful applicants by June 10, 2010.
Who is Sponsoring the Camp?
Thompson Rivers University, Raise-a-Reader Kamloops, and the Kamloops Daily News are sponsoring the camp.
