Hazardous Material Spill

  • Emergency spill control materials and procedures have been established for all TRU laboratories and chemical storage facilities. If you work in these areas, familiarize yourself with the location of these materials and the procedures for their use.
  • Ensure that the proper personal protective equipment is worn when handling hazardous substances.
  • Know the location of the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) reference binders and refer to them as required.
  • Any escape, leakage or exposure of a hazardous substance or radioactive material is to be reported immediately to the Occupational Health and Safety department at 828-5139 (local 5139).
  • If the spill occurs after hours, contact TRU Security at 9-828-5033 or local 1111. When reporting, be specific about the nature of the material or substance involved and its exact location. The necessary emergency response personnel and specialized authorities will be contacted.

    • DO NOT RETURN to an evacuated building until instructed to do so by an Emergency Warden or Security.
    • Clean-up and/or containment is to be conducted only by trained personnel.
