Literary and Art History Certificate
• B.C. Grade 12, or equivalent or mature status.
• 73% on combined English 12 and Government Exam (written within the last 5 years), or Level 4 on the composition section of the L.P.I. (written within the last 2 years), or completion of English 060 or completion of CESL 053, CESL 054 and 057 with C+ or better.
• Proof of Canadian Citizenship or Landed Immigrant Status if applicant not born in Canada.
• Official transcripts of previous secondary and/or post-secondary educational record.
Application Procedure
Admissions encourages you to submit an “Application for Admission” form and related documentation as soon as you complete each of the requirements. However, the minimum documentation, which will be accepted, is as follows:
• The application processing fee if you have never attended TRU before.
• A completed “Application for Admission” form.
• An official transcript of interim or final grades.
BACHELOR OF FINE ART DEGREE - The BFA degree
requires completion of a minimum of 120 credits
1. General Educational Requirements: 24 credits
- 6 credits first year English: e.g. ENGL 110, 111, 112, 114, 121
- 12 credits selected from three of the following areas:
Humanities: e.g. Film Studies, History, Modern Languages, Music, Philosophy, Religious Studies, Theatre
Social Sciences: e.g. Anthropology, Economics, Geography, Political Studies, Psychology, Sociology
Math/Science: In addition to courses offered by Math and Science departments this requirement may be met by additional courses with a lab component, potentially including such disciplines as Computing Science, Physical Geography, Statistics
- 6 credits of academic elective: Students must take 6 credits at any level in any approved academic discipline. Students may take up to three of these credits from Fine Arts courses in Art History or Art Theory
2. History and Theory of Art (HTA) Requirements: 18 credits
- Required HTA courses are: VISA 111, VISA 112, VISA 499
- 18 credits in Art History or Theory: 9 of these credits must be selected from third and fourth year offerings.
3. Studio Requirements: 78 credits
To complete a BFA degree students must have 78 credits of Studio, 39 of which must be at the third and fourth year. Students intending to complete their program of studies in Studio Art should take VISA 491 (12 credits). Students intending to complete their program of studies in Gallery Studies should take VISA 492 (12 credits). Gallery Studies requires six less credits in third year studio courses but six more credits in third year HTA courses to make up the 39 upper level credit requirements.
- Required studio courses are: VISA 101, VISA 102, VISA 103, VISA 121, VISA 491
- 15 credits of first-year studio courses, 24 credits of second-year studio courses, 27 credits of third-year studio courses and 12 credits of fourth-year studio courses.
Students wishing to complete the BFA program should consult the Department Chair or Visual Art Coordinator or BFA program advisor.
The Visual Art Diploma requires completion of a minimum of 60 credits in which 48 credits must be VISA courses
Required courses are: - 6 credits of ENGL 110, ENGL 111 or 112 or 114 or 121
- 6 credits of academic electives, 3 of the 6 credits maybe Art
History or Theory
- 6 credits of first year Art History (VISA 111/112)
- 15 credits of first year VISA Foundation studio courses
- 24 credits of second-year VISA studio courses
- 3 credits of Art History or Theory

Requirements: *120 credits are required for the BA degree *Minimum 36 credits and maximum 42 credits in VISA courses *18 credits must be upper level VISA courses *History of Art (VISA 111/112), 2D Foundation 1 and 2 and 3D Foundation (VISA 101/102/103) and Drawing 1 (VISA 121) are required courses
VISUAL ARTS STUDIO CERTIFICATE
The Visual Arts Certificate requires completion of of 30 credits
Required courses are:
VISA 101/102/103 (Foundation courses) - 9 credits
VISA 121 (Drawing 1) - 3 credits
Any six 2nd year VISA Studio Courses -18 credits

LITERARY AND ART HISTORY CERTIFICATE
The Literary and Art History Certificate requires completion of of 30 credits
Required courses are:
ENGL 110/111/121 (First Year English) - 6 credits
ENGL 211/221 (Survey of English Literature) - 6 credits
VISA 111/112 (Art History 1 and 2) - 6 credits
VISA 211/212 (Art History 3 and 4) - 6 credits
VISA 213/214 (A Survey of Modern Art 1 and 2) - 6 credits
