BTACS Program Description

The Bachelor of Technology (Applied Computing Science) degree - hereafter referred to by the acronym BTACS - consists of two years of concentrated computing studies preceded by two years of general study. It is designed for those wishing to enter a career using modern information technologies to design, implement, maintain and upgrade Information Technology systems. The program will mainly concentrate on small to medium business environments.

The BTACS degree is designed for a wide range of candidates including (but not limited to):

  • Graduates of any (non-computing) undergraduate program in Science, Art, or Engineering wishing to obtain a second degree in Computing Science.
  • Graduates of two year diploma programs in Computing, MIS, and Information Science.
  • Students currently enrolled in a UCC Science program.
  • Past graduates of BTACS or any undergraduate computing program wishing to upgrade their knowledge and skills.
  • Recent high school Graduates.
  • All those wishing to enter a career involving computer-based systems with special emphasis on medium and small sized companies and organizations.

The degree will:

  • Enable students in academic streams to obtain an applied computing science degree.
  • Allow students with a 2 year Computing Science Diploma to continue their education and obtain a Degree in Computing Science.
  • Permit students in the B.Sc. and B.A. degrees more course options, including obtaining a minor in Computing Science.
  • Allow past students the ability to upgrade skills to maintain or enhance employability.
  • Allow employees required to upgrade their skills, but not necessarily interested in completing the degree, to take needed courses.
