Recommendations to all Students

  1. All students thinking about post-secondary education should read through the online Step One and Step Two Tutorials .  These tutorials explain Admission and Registration processes specific to someone wanting to upgrade their skills and progress to one of TRU's Academic, Career or Trades programs, as well as what it will be like to be a student at TRU.
  2. If you have been out of school a number of years, the Advisors often recommend an assessment test be done to determine Math and English placement.  Information is given in the Step One Tutorial, or you can contact the Assessment Centre directly.
  3. There is a University Preparation tutorial just for University Preparation students explaining requirements, placement testing, applying and registering.

Admission

Admission to University Preparation is Open.  This means that those students who apply to TRU first will be able to register first.  While TRU does take applications for every semester, to be early, it is always recommended that student apply October 1st for the following September semester.  Applications are also accepted for the January semester right up until the first day of class (but course selection may be severely restricted).

University Preparation classes are offered during the Fall, Winter and Summer semesters.  It is possible for students to carry a 'mixed' program, taking some University Preparation classes with academic first year classes, provided specific course pre-requisites are met.

The Admission process is noted here.  Registration for classes are usually held in June and July for the following Fall and Winter semesters.

You can be assured of the compatibility of courses offered at TRU.
As a member of the B.C. Provincial Articulation Committee, TRU provides formally articulated course curriculum with the other post-secondary institutions within B.C.

How does this help you?
By completing needed upgrading classes at TRU, if you choose to continue onto a Year 1 program at TRU, or anywhere else within the province, you will have the specific pre-requisites needed to be successful in your program.
